Pregnancy Lower Back Pain Treatment in Singapore

Lower back pain in pregnancy can be exhausting and overwhelming, but you are not alone. At Calyx, we offer gentle and specialised physiotherapy designed for your changing body. Through expert musculoskeletal and pelvic health assessment, we tailor care that eases discomfort, supports movement, and prepares you physically and emotionally for birth.

What Is Pregnancy Lower Back Pain Treatment?

At Calyx, pregnancy lower back pain treatment is gentle, supportive, and tailored to your changing needs. We combine hands-on physiotherapy with personalised movement strategies to ease discomfort, improve pelvic alignment, and help you feel more comfortable in your body. Each session supports your strength, mobility, and wellbeing as you prepare for birth.

Is This Safe for Me?

Yes. All treatments are designed around safety and comfort for both mum and baby. We use techniques that are safe during pregnancy, guided by clinical evidence and adapted to your changing body.

Who Should Consider Pregnancy Lower Back Pain Treatment?

If you are pregnant and have ongoing back pain, limited mobility, or postural discomfort, specialised physiotherapy can help. Calyx supports you through flare-ups and chronic pain to improve comfort, movement, and wellbeing throughout your pregnancy.

  • Do I Need a Referral?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with our women’s health physiotherapists, who are trained to assess and treat pregnant women. If needed, we’re happy to coordinate care with your OBGYN or GP.

  • Is This Suitable Before or After Childbirth? Or Both?

Yes. Many women seek treatment during pregnancy, and we also support mothers postpartum. Early care helps promote healing and recovery, especially if lower back pain continues or increases after childbirth.

Symptoms and Signs You May Benefit from Pregnancy Lower Back Pain Treatment

Common signs include:

  • Persistent or worsening pain in the lower back
  • Difficulty turning in bed or getting out of a chair
  • Referred pain into the hips or thighs
  • Pain around weeks 18 to 22 or in the third trimester

These signs often indicate changes in posture, pelvic alignment, or muscle tension related to pregnancy. Early treatment can help relieve discomfort and support your body as it adapts through each stage.

What Happens During Your Session

At Calyx we begin by truly listening to your pain story so we understand exactly what you are going through. Then we carefully assess how your spine, hips, and pelvis are moving and working together. Your treatment will be gentle, hands-on, and personalised to fit your pregnancy stage. It is designed to bring real relief and help you feel strong and supported again.

  • Will There Be an Internal Assessment?

Internal assessments are not routine. However, because of the close connection between the pelvis and lower back, we may suggest an internal pelvic floor assessment if we suspect related issues. This is only done with your full consent and when it helps guide your personalised care.

  • Do I Need to Prepare or Bring Anything?

Just come in comfortable clothes. If possible, bring any medical reports or pregnancy notes that may be helpful.

  • What Happens After the Session?

You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what’s driving your pain, along with a personalised plan to help you stay comfortable and active. This may include stretches, exercises, and advice on posture and daily habits.

Techniques and Tools We May Use

  • Soft tissue massage to relieve tension
  • Joint mobilisation for pelvic and spinal alignment
  • Postural re-education and ergonomic advice
  • Kinesiotaping for support
  • Guided movement and strength-based exercises
  • Is It Painful or Uncomfortable?

Most techniques are gentle and soothing. If anything causes discomfort, we adjust immediately to ensure your ease.

  • How We Ensure Safety in Each Method

Our physiotherapists are specially trained in prenatal care and women’s health. We carefully modify all techniques to suit each trimester and your body’s needs, with ongoing monitoring throughout treatment to ensure your safety and comfort at every step.

Your Progress and Results Over Time

  • How Soon Will I See Improvement?

You may feel improvement even after your first session, with gradual gains in strength, flexibility, and confidence over time.

  • How Often Will I Need Sessions?

This depends on your severity and stage of pregnancy. Most clients benefit from weekly or fortnightly sessions in the beginning.

  • Will I Need Maintenance Visits?

Yes, especially as your pregnancy progresses and your body continues to change. After your initial recovery, ongoing support can make a big difference. You may benefit from one-to-one preventive check-ins or by enrolling in Rooted for Birth, our signature programme designed to keep you strong, mobile, and well-prepared for pregnancy and childbirth.

  • What Do I Need to Do at Home?

You’ll receive tailored home exercises, lifestyle guidance, and ergonomic tips to maintain results between sessions.

CHLOE NG
Co-founder, Senior Physiotherapist

Chloe is a dedicated women’s health physiotherapist whose personal and professional journey has shaped her compassionate approach to care. Early in her career, she noticed that many women’s health concerns, including incontinence, painful intercourse and fertility challenges, were often dismissed or left unspoken. This sparked her commitment to specialise in pelvic health and provide women with the support they deserve.

She pursued training in pelvic health assessment and management, and integrates Polestar Pilates principles into her practice to restore functional movement, postural alignment, and overall wellbeing.

Her personal decision to go through two unmedicated births reinforced her belief in the power of education, preparation, and informed support during pregnancy and beyond.
